Elon Musk Says Tesla May Have A Robot Prototype Within A Few Months

Tesla may have a functioning humanoid robot within a few months, Elon Musk, CEO, said on Twitter, as he delayed the electric carmaker’s second AI Day until September 30th. Optimus, first introduced during Tesla’s inaugural AI Day in August 2021, is a human-sized robot that Musk envisions will be able to carry out mundane tasks like grocery shopping.

Also known as Tesla Bot, the robot will someday have “the potential to be more significant than the vehicle business over time”, Musk has said. Optimus will be around 173cm tall, weigh approximately 57kg and have a carrying capacity of 20kg, according to a presentation made during the 2021 AI event. The robotic humanoid will be controlled by the same artificial intelligence systems that Tesla is developing for use in its electric cars.

Essentially, in the future, “physical work will be a choice”, Musk said. “Tesla is arguably the world’s biggest robotics company. Our cars are semi-sentient robots on wheels,” he added.
