Jeff Bezos, Amazon Founder, said in an interview with CNN that aired on Monday, November 14th, that he intends to donate most of his wealth to charity within the course of his lifetime. This is the first time he has made such a pledge. According to Bezos, most of his donations will go to people who can help unify humanity in the face of deep political and social divisions and toward fighting climate change. Bezos is currently the fourth richest person worldwide, with an estimated net worth of $124.1 billion, as per Forbes.
In 2020, Bezos launched the Bezos Earth Fund, which he set up to grant $10 billion over ten years to activists, scientists, and non-governmental organizations “to help preserve and protect the natural world.” Until now, the Amazon Founder had not officially signed the Giving Pledge, where high net-worth individuals commit to give away more than half their wealth.
CNN interviewed Bezos alongside his wife, Lauren Sánchez. On Saturday, November 12th, the couple announced Dolly Parton as the $100 million grant recipient of the Bezos Courage and Civility Award.
