Andy O’Brien to Lead ConocoPhillips From September

Egypt

Andy O’Brien will become President and CEO of ConocoPhillips on September 1, succeeding Ryan Lance as the energy company moves forward with a planned leadership succession.

ConocoPhillips will begin September under new executive leadership, with Andy O’Brien set to become President and Chief Executive Officer on September 1, 2026, as part of a planned succession at the energy company.

O’Brien, currently Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President, Strategy and Commercial, will succeed Ryan Lance, who will retire as President and CEO and move into a transitional role as Executive Chair of the Board. O’Brien will also join the company’s Board of Directors.

The transition represents an internal succession built around an executive with nearly three decades of experience within the organisation.

O’Brien joined legacy Conoco in 1997 and has since held leadership positions spanning finance, planning, strategy and operations across the company’s global business. Since joining the executive leadership team in 2022, his responsibilities have included Alaska and international operations, commercial activities, LNG, mergers and acquisitions, investor relations and corporate planning.

The September transition will also bring another change to ConocoPhillips’ executive team. Konnie Haynes-Welsh, currently Vice President, Finance and Controller, will become Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Lance’s move to Executive Chair follows 14 years leading ConocoPhillips, providing continuity as responsibilities transition to the company’s next generation of leadership.

For O’Brien, the appointment brings together almost three decades of experience across the company’s financial, operational and strategic functions as he prepares to take charge from September.
