Self-Care Habits For The Exhausted Entrepreneur

When you have a hectic schedule and thousands of things on your agenda each day, it’s easy to put self-care on the back burner. The large stack of never-ending tasks, reading and replying to numerous emails, commuting back and forth to the office, or even juggling the perfect work-from-home balance can often push you to the point of exhaustion.

If you find yourself in this situation more often than not, it can leave you demotivated and push you into a cycle of unhealthy habits. Pulling yourself out of that rabbit hole can be difficult, especially when it becomes a fixed pattern. But many of these things can be detrimental to your health in the long run. So here are a few easy self-care habits that you can incorporate into your daily routine instead:

1. Moments of Connection

It’s easy to get lost in the humdrum of your everyday work routine. In fact, more often than not, people lose sight of the importance of connecting and communicating with others. Studies show that fostering connections is instrumental in improving your health and wellness. This is because humans are social beings; it is why people live and function in society.

A low-effort self-care habit that you can incorporate into your routine during any point of your day is brief moments of connection. It could include smiling and saying thank you to your barista, complimenting someone you notice, waving hello to your neighbor or even making small talk with a coworker. These seemingly insignificant social encounters help release your happy hormone, oxytocin, thereby improving your mood and mental health.

2. Breathwork

Have you ever heard the line “Just breathe”? As overrated as it might sound, breathwork can actually do wonders for your health. Think of it as a more engaging form of meditation, where you focus solely on your breathing pattern.

There are numerous techniques that you can add to your day to help destress; most don’t take more than a few minutes. One such technique is called ‘4-7-8 Breathe’. You start by taking a deep breath in through your nose to a count of four. You then hold your breath for a count of seven and finally exhale to the count of eight. Repeat this process twice and watch as you feel lighter and more focused on your task ahead.

3. Take Care of Your Body

When guilty pleasures like Netflix and some takeout seem like a great way to unwind, you need to take a step back and ask yourself if any of those things help you feel better? Do you end up feeling refreshed or lethargic? Your body is one of the most important things, if you don’t treat it right you’ll find yourself feeling exhausted more often.

Instead of a fast food option, try picking a nutritious meal. Not only does a healthy meal rejuvenate you, but a nutritious diet helps combat fatigue in the long run. Hydrate your body with water instead of yet another coffee or energy drink.

And most importantly, stretch those muscles! While the last thing on your mind after a taxing day is hitting the gym, research shows that a short workout can actually leave you feeling more energized.

4. Set Boundaries

There are only so many hours in a day, and when you’re an entrepreneur, it’s easy to lose yourself in your work. This is where setting boundaries and working towards achieving a work-life balance comes in.

Spending time with your loved ones, exploring your hobbies, and switching off your office phone after work hours; are all things that help you destress and leave you refreshed to start work once again. Click here for a few tips to make your work-life balance goals successful.

Self-care shouldn’t be looked at as an indulgence or luxury; instead, it should be accepted as a vital part of your lifestyle. As a busy entrepreneur with a host of work on your plate, it is up to you to use self-care as a tool to transform yourself into the most effective and productive version of yourself.
