AI pioneer and Coursera co-founder Andrew Ng has launched LearnVector, an AI-native education company backed by a $100 million strategic investment from Coursera.
LearnVector plans to use AI agents to create personalised, one-to-one learning experiences that adapt to each learner’s progress, provide continued practice and help users demonstrate mastery of new skills. The company is expected to launch its first products in early 2027.
Coursera’s investment represents a one-third ownership interest in LearnVector on a fully diluted basis, implying a valuation of approximately $300 million for the newly established company. The two businesses are also exploring commercial partnerships covering course development and distribution.
PREPARING PROFESSIONALS FOR AI-LED CHANGE
Ng founded LearnVector amid growing concern that artificial intelligence could displace workers across several industries. He has taken a more optimistic position, arguing that AI will reshape tasks and increase demand for professionals who can develop new skills.
The company will initially focus on adult and workforce education rather than school-level learning. Its planned courses are expected to support professionals as AI changes the skills required across white-collar roles.
LearnVector is still developing its course portfolio, pricing structure and user interface. It plans to use foundation models from multiple external providers and eventually offer its learning solutions to corporations, governments and higher-education institutions.
Rather than functioning as a chatbot that provides immediate answers, the platform aims to act more like a personal tutor. Its systems will be designed to create individual learning pathways, adjust material according to performance and remain involved until the learner has developed measurable proficiency.
COURSERA DEEPENS ITS AI STRATEGY
The investment forms part of Coursera’s wider effort to integrate artificial intelligence across its learning platform. Coursera believes AI could expand demand for education by making learning more personalised, continuous and accessible.
Potential collaboration between the companies could combine LearnVector’s agentic AI capabilities with Coursera’s content, credentials and international distribution network. Coursera said its wider ecosystem now reaches more than 300 million learners and 12,000 enterprise customers.
Because Ng remains Coursera’s co-founder and chairman while leading LearnVector as CEO, the transaction was reviewed by a special committee composed of independent and disinterested Coursera directors. The committee unanimously approved the investment following an evaluation and negotiation process.
ANDREW NG’S NEXT EDUCATION VENTURE
Ng is one of the best-known figures in artificial intelligence and online learning. He co-founded Google Brain, served as Baidu’s chief scientist and previously directed the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
He co-founded Coursera with Daphne Koller in 2012 and later established DeepLearning.AI and AI Fund. His courses and educational initiatives have helped introduce millions of learners to machine learning, generative AI and other emerging technologies.
With LearnVector, Ng is returning to the intersection of AI and education, this time focusing on how personalised learning systems could help professionals remain relevant as workplace requirements evolve.
The venture also represents one of the largest publicly announced investments by an established education-technology company in an AI-native learning platform. Its success will depend on whether LearnVector can move beyond chatbot-based assistance and create learning experiences that produce measurable improvements in professional skills.
