Stephen Curry Tops Forbes NBA Earnings List at $203.6 Million

United States

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has become the first active NBA player projected to earn more than $200 million in a single season, according to Forbes' 2026 ranking. His record-breaking earnings place him ahead of LeBron James and highlight the growing commercial power of elite athletes.

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has reached a historic financial milestone, topping Forbes’ 2026 ranking of the NBA’s highest-paid players with projected earnings of $203.6 million for the 2026-27 season.

The 38-year-old basketball star becomes the first active NBA player projected to cross the $200 million threshold in combined annual income from playing salary, endorsements and business ventures.

Published on October 20, 2026, the Forbes ranking places Curry ahead of longtime rival LeBron James by approximately $109.7 million, reflecting the growing value of Curry’s commercial partnerships alongside his basketball career.

Curry Establishes a New NBA Earnings Record

According to Forbes, Curry is expected to earn approximately $62.6 million from his Golden State Warriors contract during the 2026-27 season.

An additional $141 million is projected to come from endorsements, sponsorships and other business activities.

His combined earnings place him comfortably ahead of Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant, who ranks second with an estimated $104.9 million.

Miami Heat star Giannis Antetokounmpo follows in third place with $103.5 million, while LeBron James ranks fourth at approximately $93.9 million.

Curry’s latest achievement marks his second consecutive year at the top of the NBA earnings list, following James’ previous 11-year reign.

Li-Ning Partnership Drives Commercial Growth

A major factor behind Curry’s record-breaking financial outlook is his new partnership with Chinese sportswear company Li-Ning.

After ending his long-standing relationship with Under Armour in 2025, Curry announced a new agreement with Li-Ning in June 2026.

Forbes estimates the partnership is worth approximately $400 million over ten years, with his first signature shoe under the arrangement expected to launch in early 2027.

The agreement represents an important development in Curry’s commercial career, demonstrating how established athletes can extend their influence through international brand partnerships.

His projected $141 million in off-court earnings also exceeds his previous NBA record of $100 million, highlighting the financial opportunities available beyond professional competition.

A Strategic Decision With the Warriors

Curry’s financial milestone comes shortly after he agreed to a two-year, $116 million contract extension with the Golden State Warriors.

The agreement includes a player option for the 2028-29 season and could allow him to remain with the franchise that selected him in the 2009 NBA Draft.

Notably, Curry accepted approximately $20.7 million less than the maximum extension available to him.

The decision provides Golden State with additional financial flexibility as the organisation works to strengthen its roster.

Despite accepting a smaller playing contract than he could have negotiated, Curry’s wider commercial portfolio has enabled him to reach a new earnings benchmark.

Beyond Basketball: The Business of Athlete Leadership

Curry’s rise in the Forbes rankings reflects the increasing importance of personal branding, commercial partnerships and business development in modern professional sports.

The four-time NBA champion has built a commercial identity extending beyond his achievements on the court.

His business interests include media production through Unanimous Media, alongside partnerships with international companies.

Forbes also places Curry among a small group of athletes, including Floyd Mayweather, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jon Rahm, whose annual earnings have exceeded $200 million in its historical tracking.

The figures are not adjusted for inflation.

A New Benchmark for Athlete Earnings

Curry enters the 2026-27 season as one of the NBA’s most recognisable players, with his financial success reinforcing the value of an established sporting reputation.

His achievement also illustrates the changing economics of professional athletics, where endorsements and business ventures can substantially exceed playing salaries.

While his on-court future remains closely tied to Golden State, his latest Forbes ranking demonstrates how a long-standing sporting career can evolve into a powerful international business platform.

For Curry, the $203.6 million projection represents more than another financial record. It marks a new benchmark for the commercial influence of professional basketball players.
