Singapore Management University Launches Business AI Master’s Programme

Singapore Management University (SMU) has introduced a new Master of Science in Business AI, targeting a growing shortage of business leaders who can translate artificial intelligence capabilities into strategy, governance, and organisational value.

The programme is aligned with Singapore’s national SkillsFuture and Smart Nation priorities, which focus on building AI competencies and strengthening data-driven decision-making across the workforce. Its launch comes as companies across Asia-Pacific accelerate AI adoption, increasing demand for leaders who can bridge technical teams and senior management.

According to SMU, the programme is designed to address what it describes as a “translational” AI skills gap where organisations have access to AI technologies but lack executives capable of deploying them strategically and responsibly. The curriculum emphasises business decision-making, leadership, and risk management in AI-enabled environments, rather than technical AI development alone.

Developed in consultation with industry, the programme integrates business strategy, decision intelligence, AI capabilities, and ethics into a single, interdisciplinary structure. Courses include Human–AI Collaboration, Data Storytelling and AI-Augmented Influencing, Change Management for Disruptive AI, and Innovations and Operations in Intelligent Online Marketplaces.

SMU said the programme’s interactive, seminar-based teaching model is intended to reflect real-world business environments, with a strong focus on practical application and industry relevance. Graduates are expected to take on strategic roles in organisations where AI is increasingly embedded into operating models and decision processes.
