Vitrealab, a Vienna-headquartered deeptech company focused on next-generation display solutions, has closed a $11 million (€9.4 million) Series A funding round to advance the development of practical augmented reality (AR) eyewear.
The funding round was led by LIFTT, with participation from existing and strategic investors including PhotonVentures, along with other technology-focused backers. The capital will be used to accelerate the development and industrialisation of Vitrealab’s proprietary light-engine technology, which enables digital images to be displayed clearly within smart glasses while keeping devices compact and energy efficient.
Display performance remains one of the biggest barriers preventing AR glasses from moving beyond niche applications, as existing systems often struggle with size, brightness, and power consumption. Vitrealab’s technology is designed to overcome these challenges by delivering visuals that are bright, lightweight, and suitable for everyday use.
The new funding will support the company’s transition from advanced prototypes to manufacturable products, as well as the expansion of partnerships with global hardware manufacturers and ecosystem players.
The announcement comes amid growing global interest in spatial computing, wearable displays, and hands-free digital interfaces, with major technology companies increasingly exploring AR-powered use cases across navigation, training, and enterprise applications.
With fresh capital in place, Vitrealab is positioning itself as a key enabler in the smart eyewear market, aiming to bridge the gap between experimental AR concepts and practical, real-world devices.
